Franciscan Monastery
The monastery, located above the Vrbovec Castle in Nazarje, boasts a rich library of geographical, historical and other books, among which Dalmatian’s Bible plays a central role.
Take some spiritual time
Renaissance Church of Mary Nazareth stands at the confluence of the Savinja and Dreta rivers in Nazarje, next to it is the Franciscan Monastery, built in 1639. It became known for its pharmacy, a popular school and an extensive library that was damaged during the second World War. In the immediate vicinity there also a monastery of the sisters of the clergy. They uninterrupted in isolation, day and night cheerfully sing praises to God and beg for blessings for their brothers and sisters.
Franciscan Monastery exhibits some rare book items:
- handwritten manusripts from the 11th and 12th centuries,
- Trubar’s translation of the gospels from c. 1582,
- original copies of the Dalamtian Bibles from 1584.
The collection is open to the public.
