Conquer Golte – A Cycling Challenge for Enthusiasts

Get ready, cycling enthusiasts. While professional cyclists gear up for the traditional 5-stage Tour of Slovenia race (June 4-8, 2025), recreational road cyclists now have their own moment to shine. My Tour of Slovenia will take place on a segment of the demanding "King's Stage," the 4th stage of the 31st Tour of Slovenia: the Mozirje–Golte route.

Your Chance to Ride Like a Pro 

On Saturday, June 7, 2025, passionate recreational road cyclists are invited to test their mettle on a course designed to make you feel like part of the Tour of Slovenia caravan. This is your opportunity to cycle through the idyllic scenery of the Upper Savinja Valley and experience a true professional-style race. Spectators are also warmly invited to line the route, cheer on the ambitious competitors, and witness the excitement firsthand.

The Challenging Mozirje–Golte Route

The race begins at 9:00 AM from the main square in Mozirje. Cyclists will head towards Luče, ascend to Kranjski Rak, continue towards Rečica ob Savinji, and culminate with the challenging climb to Golte. Organizers confirm that this 81.9 km (approx. 50.9 miles) route boasts nearly 2,000 meters (approx. 6,560 feet) of elevation gain and will feature closed roads, accompanied by police for participant safety.

The cycling caravan will depart from the start line by the Savinja River towards the settlement of Nizka, where a closed ride will ensure safety for all participants before "Kilometer 0" officially begins. The picturesque route then leads through Ljubno ob Savinji towards Luče, turning towards the first mountain goal at Kranjski Rak. This climb features an average gradient of 8.4% over 5.1 km, making it a key segment for a special classification where both male and female winners of this mountain challenge will be declared.

A shorter, technically demanding descent follows towards Črnivec, where the first refreshment station will be located at approximately the 35 km mark. Cyclists will then proceed towards Nova Štifta and Gornji Grad in the direction of Nazarje. The final challenge awaits with the ascent to Golte, spanning 13.8 km with an average gradient of 7.4% and sections exceeding 12%. A final refreshment station will be available before this ultimate climb. Upon reaching the summit, cyclists will be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views from Golte.
