The wine tourist trail leads among the vineyards, next to the cultural and natural sights of Mali Vrh. Experience the wine-growing environment and get to know the traditional way of growing grapes and top-quality wines right where they are made. On the way, stop at the famous Špančeva zidanica, which is considered a true pearl of the cultural and ethnological heritage of Slovenian viticulture. Mlinar’s vineyard cottage (supposedly built around 1540 or in the 17th century) and Bednik’s vineyard cottage (1748) are also extremely interesting.

The Primožič winery is located on a lookout point, the highest point of Mali Vrh, from where you can enjoy views of the surrounding hills and the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. Winemaker Mojca Praprotnik continues her father’s viticultural tradition and was the only winemaker in the area to develop the first rose sparkling wine. Along with a top-quality drop, you will also enjoy tasting home-made cured meat products, pâtés and minced meat.

Špančeva zidanica is one of the best preserved and oldest vineyard cottages in Slovenia. First-class grapes are pressed in a mighty oak press from 1791. Winemaker Anže Podgoršek is happy to explain how the wine press works, present traditional cellaring and offer a unique wine from the autochthonous white ranfol type.

At Jože Kugler, who is a multiple champion and cellarman of the year in Šmartno ob Paki, you will be amazed by a huge wine barrel that can hold as many as eight people. Here you will find an imaginative ambience, with the smells sauvignon, chardonnay, yellow nutmeg and Laško Riesling. In addition to excellent wines, he also produces home-made spirits, liqueurs and dried meats.

You can also visit the Malus vineyard cottage, which is famous for its excellent local white wines, and visit Pr ‘Paulek’s Korln, which, in addition to wines, offers delicious homemade cakes and pastries. In Laket’s cellar you will get to know more than 150 years of wine production tradition, buy a beautiful souvenir or a product of local arts and crafts at the Kovačič homestead and feast at the Malus Inn.
