From Topolšica to Lom

Trail to Lom is an easy marked trial that will lead you above Šalek Valley. It starts at Terme Topolšica spa where you can enjoy healing effects of thermal water or visit the Memorial Room that commemorates the unconditional surrender of the German forces in 2nd WW. 

Key Information

STARTING POINT: Terme Topolšica (410 m). Access to the starting point: 1. From the direction of Maribor. Take the motorway to the Arja vas exit, where you continue to the right in the direction of Velenje or Slovenj Gradec. Drive through Velika Pirešica, Črnovo and Vinska Gora to Velenje, where we continue straight past the Gorenje factory in the direction of Šoštanj. A little after Velenje, turn in the roundabout in the direction of Šoštanj. At the Thermal Power Plant, turn onto the bridge and drive through the center of Šoštanj. A little after the primary school of Karel Destovnik – Kajuh, turn left in the direction of Topolšica. After about 4 km you will reach Terme Topolšica. You can park in the large parking lot of the hotel Vesna. 2. From the direction of Ljubljana, take the motorway to the Šentrupert exit, where you can already see the signs for Topolšica. Then we drive through Preserje, Male Braslovče and Letuš towards Šmartno ob Paki. From there continue to the village of Gorenje, where you turn right onto the main road towards Velenje. Shortly before Velenje, in the roundabout exit in the direction of Šoštanj, at the Thermal Power Plant, turn onto the bridge and drive through the center of Šoštanj. A little after the primary school of Karel Destovnik – Kajuh, turn left in the direction of Topolšica. After about 4 km you will reach Terme Topolšica. Trail Description

From the parking lot of Terme Topolšica, we walk through the spa park and the memorial room. The trial starts above the road, at the stairs leading to the hill. Soon you will arrive at the parking lot of the Topolšica Hospital. There follow the sign directing you to a steep path into the forest above the hospital. After 15 minutes you will reach an asphalt road. Follow the road up the hill (keep right, go in the direction of the sunny path or the path across Lom) even though the markings point in the opposite direction. After walking a long slope, you will reach a lookout point, which offers beautiful views of the Šaleška valley, Velenje, Šoštanj and Topolšica.

A small ascent follows, and the road starts to flatten and slightly descend. A marked hunting trail branches off at the house where the road begins to descend. You will quickly reach a forest. The trail becomes steep and rocky and is covered with leaves in some places. The trail flattens out after a 20-minute walk when we reach the Lom ridge. Follow the marked trail (along the road) that leads along the ridge. After walking through a through a mixed terrain you will reach an abandoned farm Dražnik. From here we continue along the road to the farm Vodovnik and then to the farm Ravs. Continue on until you reach a cottage and turn right turn right into the forest and after a few meters you will reach the top of Lomek.
