Museum of Forestry and Woodworking

In Nazarje, at the confluence of the Savinja and Dreta rivers, there is more than 750 years old Vrbovec Castle with the Museum of Forestry and Woodworking, showing life, forgotten customs and the work of former foresters and woodworkers.

The Savinjska Valley has rich green forests and a recognized tradition of wood management. Solčava’s Yew is one of the oldest trees in Slovenia, while The Larch on Klemenča jama Cave is the thickest larch in Slovenia. Knowledge related to wood is retained by the locals even today.

The museum is very interesting for children, individuals and school groups, showcasing the following:

  • work, life habits and customs of furmans, log divers, carpenters;
  • special features of forests in Slovenia and around the world;
  • use of wood and procedures (logging, log diving, sawmilling, and carpentry).

The exhibition is complemented by didactic points where visitors check their knowledge of forestry and woodworking.
