Logarska Valley – Solčavsko Among the Winners of the Green Destinations Top 100 Stories

29. 9. On September 29 2025, the Green Destinations Top 100 Stories awards ceremony took place in Montpellier, France. This year again, the Logar Valley – Solčavsko is among the tourist destinations that serve as a global inspiration for sustainable tourism.

At the forefront is the wool story of community, tradition, and sustainability, highlighted by the Bicka Sheep Wool Festival, a celebration dedicated to the indigenous Jezersko-Solčava sheep. The event is an important pillar of local development, the preservation of the cultural landscape, and the safeguarding of pastoral and craft heritage.

Bicka, the Woolen Thread of Sustainable Development

The Bicka Festival in Solčavsko is not just a celebration of wool, but a true intertwining of tradition, creativity, and community. Visitors are guided through stalls of local products, demonstrations of pastoral and craft skills, and inspired by a rich cultural program where music, stories, and workshops come together. A special feature of Solčavsko are three wool-processing studios that function as learning and creative hubs – places where the woolen thread is transformed into a tale of cultural heritage and contemporary design.

Today, Bicka is an internationally recognized event that connects different generations, includes vulnerable groups, promotes the sustainable use of natural resources, and highlights the importance of sheep farming for preserving the open cultural landscape. Through the festival, the knowledge of the ancestors comes to life, while new paths of creativity and collaboration are revealed.
